entitled to 1/2 Salung from that date (if The should then embark für Hongkong) until the assumption of the duties of his office I have now the hover to acquaint your Grace that Mr Austin has made application for 1/2 palary from the 25th of March when he left Englund to join

on the 29th March connecting with

at Marseilles the steamer connecting

the mail which left Southampton on the $21st of that month.

I enclose for the information of Your by Grace a copy of the application made Mr Austin tögether with the report of the Auditor General thereon, and have the honor to acquiint Your Grace that + subject to approval I have authorized payment to Mr Austin of 1/2 palary from

Had he left England by the latter steamer he would have been entitled to chuim from the 21 March, und

the actual date of departure from England would seem to fix that far recommencement of his 142 Salary I presume

as

the mention in Your Grace's despatch of the

words

leaving

Marseilles is a clerical errori

for leaving England.
